On April 18, , “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” — the hilarious rom-com about a man determined to get over his ex-girlfriend — turns 10 years old. In honor of the film’s anniversary, Wonderwall. What you might not know about Jason Segel’s contribution to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is that he wasn’t just the film’s star, but also its writer. Not long after, he starred in one of his first dramatic roles in the biopic “The End of the Tour,” which earned him critical acclaim.
The romantic comedy follows Peter Bretter’s (Jason Segel) struggle with getting over his breakup with actress Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) by.
I don’t agree with Richard Roeper, columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, that this is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s not as funny as “The Year-Old Virgin” , and in terms of how often I laughed, and out loud laughter from people around me, this certainly doesn’t rank as high as last year’s “Knocked Up. Like those other two movies, this is another Judd Apatow production. I seem to really enjoy films that Apatow personally writes and directs. This one, like recent films, Apatow handed over to his friends.
One day, Peter gets out of the shower and sees Sarah standing in his living room. From her posture and her delicate phrasing, it’s apparent to Peter that she’s about to break up with him. The reason we can guess but we won’t learn the truth until the end. What follows is a series of awkward and increasingly uncomfortable situations, which hinder Peter from moving beyond this broken relationship.
He’s a sweet, sensitive, loving guy who continues to dwell on thoughts of his ex-girlfriend. Segal, who is reminiscent of Michael Rappoport, carries the film very well. That’s despite the fact that during the first hour of this film his character is pathetic and annoying. In Apatow movies, this appears to be a theme, turning pathetic and sometimes annoying men into loveable creatures.

I ask because the creative types on both those low-rated but deservedly treasured sitcoms keep turning up as actors, writers and directors on the films issuing from Apatow Nation. The last two Walk Hard , Drillbit Taylor were factory seconds. Segel wrote the script and stars as the rejected lover in Forgetting Sarah Marshall , and he pulls off both jobs with a deceptive ease that does Apatow proud.
After watching “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” the only thing I wanted to forget about was Jason Segel’s weener. But in all honesty, it’s about time that somebody.
The mids were dominated by the Apatow comedy: R-rated laugh riots that were smarter, sweeter, and generally better than their premises would suggest. He then finds a new love interest in a hotel employee, played by Mila Kunis. When Peter goes down to the beach to take a surfing lesson, he meets the instructor, played by the brilliant Paul Rudd back in his pre-Quantum Realm days.
My Hawaiian name is Kunu. Brand plays the same rock star character, Aldous Snow, in both movies, but Hill plays two different characters, both equally obsessed with Aldous. There, he meets the bartender, Dwayne, who tells him that since he moved to Hawaii from South Central, he is able to name over species of fish.
‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ Is One of the Most Essential Comedies of the 21st Century
When I was 15, my parents took my friends and me to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall. To this day, I’m not sure why I thought the latest Judd Apatow-produced comedy was the best Saturday night outing for a church youth group in Savannah, Ga. My conservative parents surely wondered the same thing when, in the first five minutes, a naked, flaccid, dripping wet Peter Bretter Segel gets broken up with by his hotshot actress girlfriend Sarah Marshall Kristen Bell and proceeds to have lots of cringe-worthy rebound sex with strangers.
It’s safe to say, Mom and Dad didn’t go to the movies with me for a long time after that.

Title: Forgetting Sarah Marshall Peter is a composer and a likable sad sack who’s devastated when his girlfriend of five years, Sarah Marshall, the star of a cheesy CSI-style crime show, dumps him. He weeps, he rails, he mopes. Finally, his step-brother Brian suggests a vacation, so Peter heads for a resort on Oahu where, as he’s checking in, he sees Sarah and her new beau, Aldous, a perverse English rocker.
The weeping and moping start again, until Peter is rescued by Rachel, a thoughtful hotel clerk who invites him to a luau and to hang out. Although he constantly runs into Sarah and Aldous, Peter starts to come alive again. Will Sarah realize what she’s lost, and what about Rachel? An amusing and sometimes awkward breakup film, this pic was written by and stars a long-time Apatow cohort, Jason Segel.
The pic centers on lost, hypersensitive slacker Peter, who after being broken up with by his TV star girlfriend copes with its end poorly, eventually escaping to Hawaii where he subsequently books himself into a hotel that she is coincidentally staying at.
Jason Segel tells the tale of his real-life Sarah Marshall at his Harvard Book Store event
Let her leave so I can write this down immediately! As heart-crushed TV music composer Peter Bretter, Segel wrings some cringe-worthy laughs out of a literally and figuratively naked romantic who flies to Hawaii to recuperate only to find his sexy TV actress ex Kristen Bell cavorting at the very same luxury resort with her new British rock star beau Russell Brand. People are bound to talk, but she was a great girlfriend. Everyone gets to speak their mind. Bell, however, did have to act opposite the full frontal Segel.
Segel knows it will be an Internet frame capture forever, so when he first showed the film to his family, he opted not to warn them.

Then comes the ultimate blow as Marshall dumps Peter while he stands naked in front of her after climbing out of the shower. This movie is for everyone who lost their way after a break up. Only this break up is drained for every last drop of comedy.
After Sarah dumps Peter we painfully but with much laughter watch Peter have a string of one-night stands while trying to kill the pain that Sarah has caused him. Unable to find happiness in other women he takes a trip to Hawaii to escape his sadness but not before multiple takes of him soggily crying during various stages of meltdown.
Once in Hawaii, the worst-case scenario unfolds when none other than Sarah Marshall is staying at his hotel in the room next to his.

The movie opens with poor, perplexed Peter, played by Jason Segel, getting the heave-ho from blond priss Sarah Marshall, played by Kristen Bell. They’ve been dating for five years, he holding her purse at premieres while she poses for pictures. He’s naked when she arrives to give him the bad news, and he insists upon staying naked because, according to the wayward script, he feels it will truly be all over if he puts on clothes.

Though accepting Sarah’s lavish new lifestyle won’t be easy for the crestfallen Peter, the laid-back companionship of flirtatious resort employee Rachel Mila Kunis — not to mention a continuous regimen of fruity cocktails — goes a long way in mending the wounds of a broken heart.
